Aboriginal people would've have known about the local delicacy of crayfish long before the europeans arrived, but one writer recalls the day when William Parr, or ‘Butty’ a Maori man from Auckland, dived into the shallow waters of Geraldton to discover crayfish back in the 1800's. When news travelled of his death, a letter was sent by “An Old Bay Resident” who recalled Butty’s “skill and celerity” in Geraldton in the 1860s.
