Antifascism and the Timbers Army - Package by Andrew Bisset

The supporters' club for the Portland Timbers soccer team, known locally as the Timbers Army, has adopted both the stance and the imagery of antifascism as a platform. In this case, they chose the symbol of the Iron Front, a Weimar-era German political organization opposed to Hitler's Nazi party which was summarily banned in 1933. So strong are the fans' sentiments that even their rivalry with the hated Seattle Sounders FC was put on hold to show solidarity during the final game of the clubs' trophy match - the Cascadia Cup. Fans of both teams donned gear and flew huge flags sporting the three downward facing arrows of the Iron Front's symbol - a symbol which was banned and then un-banned over subsequent weeks by MLS as the controversy ebbed and flowed.
