Demo video for the individual project 'Charts vs News' created for the 2019/20 Sensing & Internet of Things module for 4th year Design Engineering MEng undergraduates at Imperial College London. The 'Charts vs News' project gathered UK News Headlines and the UK Spotify Daily Top 200 chart using various APIs. The Natural Language Toolkit (in Python) was then employed to perform sentiment analysis on the headlines and names' of chart-topping songs, in order to assess the relationship between the mood of the news and most popular music. A webapp to demonstrate an example service / interaction that such data gathering and analysis could enable was created: the webapp allows one to create a Spotify playlist of chart-toppings songs whose names either match or oppose the sentiment of current UK headlines. This video introduces the project and provides a live demo of the app. January 2020.
