Amid a surge in gun violence, City Attorney Mike Feuer joined Jovana Lara on ABC7 Eyewitness News to announce new enforcement action against the owners of the apartment building at 921 East 91st. Two brutal gang-related killings occurred here in early December; a separate homicide, and arrests for gun assaults, gun possession and drug sales previously occurred. We allege that the building owners have enabled criminal activity by failing to implement reasonable security measures, even after being placed on notice by our office last January. "This apartment building has been an epicenter of alarming gang-related criminal activity, including brutal shootings, making it a source of danger in a community that deserves to be safe." In 2020, total homicides in the City of Los Angeles were up 36% over 2019. Gang-related homicides, in particular, were up 41%.
