TW: loud sounds, sounds of screaming. On April 26th, 1989, a nuclear accident occurred at the No.4 reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian SSR. The radiation from the disaster affected the lives of five million former Soviet citizens over the course of decades after the incident. Still to this day, effects from Chernobyl are still being seen, and it is considered one of the main reasons why the Soviet Union collapsed. In this installation, I use a picture from the ghost town of Pripyat and a variety of different audio clips that relate to the disaster together in order to represent the tragedy and chaos behind it. Some of the samples I used were real sounds of alarms and alerts from the power plant, as well as news broadcasts and the anthem of the Soviet Union.
