Our meeting of April 1 featured master storyteller Matt Davies, son of Y’s Man Malcolm Davies. With one or two sharply drawn images Matt’s editorial cartoons offer Long Island Newsday readers a clear statement of a current issue. A Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and children’s book author and illustrator, Matt joins us to talk about political cartooning broadly, and perhaps about how the change in administrations has impacted his work. He began drawing editorial cartoons full-time for The Journal News in Westchester County, and later for Hearst. He frequently talks about cartooning and politics at venues including the UN, The Library of Congress, and The British Library in London.
