On Thursday September 30, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. in Memphis at Cummings K optional school, just down the street from the Stax Museum a 13 year old boy was shot by another 13 year old boy. Shelby County candidate for District Attorney Linda Harris address the Shooting. Linda Harris a graduate of Hamilton High School not far from the shooting was once a Memphis police officer responses via a news conference about the shooting. Ms. Harris explains that gun violence is a "learned behavior" and she makes clear that our African/American community has the resources to deal with such issues but she explains that leadership in Memphis are not dealing with the issues. Ms. Harris points out that Memphis has organizations to deal with the issues but many of the organizations are not given the voice or the concern. Ms. Harris explains that our leaders meaning our Mayors should be just as concerned at a shooting in the inner city as they are about Collierville in the affluent areas. Linda Harris explains that she as Shelby County District Attorney would deal with issue not just from the "Top Down" she would address issues from both the bottom up and to down and meet somewhere in the middle. Ms. Harris makes not that there are two victims, the 13 year old who got shot and the 13 year old who did the shooting. Both families with suffer and do we as a community treat a 13 year old as an adult. Linda Harris who understands the issues notes that this is a community issues that we must address as a community and not just throw a child and jail and throw away the Key. Ms. Harris notes that we must address gun laws and how a 13 year old has access to get a gun.
