Hollywood Shutdown: Video Essay by Max Williams

Howdy folks, I don’t know if y’all have heard. But the Coronavirus or COVID-19 is running havoc in the world right now. As of April 10 during the first draft of this script, there have been one-million, six hundred and seventy-three thousand, four hundred and twenty-three confirmed global cases, in the states alone there are four-hundred and ninety thousand, five thousand of which or 1% of the cases are less than a twenty-minute drive from here. As of the time of writing it is April 10th, 2020. While I do not expect this video to get out further than my professor and close friends I have intentionally abstained from using the names of the departed. While I do want to attempt to keep this video light-hearted the subject matter is… Dark. COVID-19 is a vile thing and I hope that everyone who watches this is doing their best to isolate for the sake of themselves and others. Before we start I would like to apologize for my appearance, both my wardrobe and shaving supplies were left on Campus. A couple of weeks ago I was a film student up at Austin College in Sherman Texas. Inside my academic bubble, I was not aware of COVID-19s effects and horrors until I came home for spring break and wasn't allowed to come back. For my final project as a film student, I was working with a group of students on making a short low-budget horror grindhouse-style film. Now without a cast, crew, or equipment, I am here scrambling for something to turn in. I mean look at this. My key light is a large floor lamp, my fill light is a Winnie-the-pooh honey pot shaped lamp that I pulled out of the garage and hidden behind me is my backlight which is also known as my desk lamp. I have no portents of how decent my camera is because I am using my 60$ smartphone, and I am recording off of my fathers gaming microphone and my laptop for audio. But i'll edit a bunch of images over most of this in post to make it all shiny. Hell, the crew of The Blair Witch Project was better equipped and they were just actors thrown out into the woods and told to hike in a direction.
