“Of each particular thing ask: what is it in itself? What is its nature?” Considering this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Silence of the Lambs film, I wanted to do a little tribute video to celebrate. What better subject than the dynamic that is the most memorable aspect of the film? So, this video explores the basic plot and themes involved in the original canon of Clannibal, the romantic relationship between Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The original canon includes 'The Silence of the Lambs' book (released in 1988) and film (released in 1991), and 'Hannibal' the novel (released in 1999) and film (released in 2001). In this video, I talk about how this dynamic subverted expectations, why a general audience found this dynamic so appealing in 1991, and what makes this dynamic still so unique to this day.
