Are We Falling Into a Trap of Good Vs. Bad Protesters? by Rising Up With Sonali

GUEST: Arun Gupta, an investigative journalist who has written for dozens of publications including the Washington Post, the Guardian, The Nation, Salon, and Raw Story. He is also author of the forthcoming book, "Bacon as a Weapon of Mass Destruction," and a regular news correspondent for Rising Up With Sonali. BACKGROUND: As protests continue to rage across the country against racist police violence, President Donald Trump has chosen to view the mass dissent as dominated by the violence of protesters rather than by the violence of police. He has threatened to deploy the US military on US soil against those he says are fomenting “anarchy” and “chaos.” But there is a growing trend among liberals as well to draw a distinction between “good protesters” – i.e. those who are marching and congregating – and “bad protesters” or those who are setting fire to police cars, smashing store windows, and pilfering products. Many suggest that white extremists have infiltrated progressive movements and are attempting to discredit the demand for black lives to matter.
